How to export data to Microsoft Excel from MSN Money Investing

How to export portfolio data from Portfolio Manager

The Deluxe version of MSN Money Investing lets you to export your Portfolio as a tab-delimited file. You can open this file in Excel or in any other program that reads text files.

Note If you want to add the portfolio data to an existing Excel workbook, you can use Portfolio Manager to copy the information to the clip board , and then paste the data in the location that you want in your Excel workbook. To copy to the clip board, click More, and then click Copy to clipboard.

To export your portfolio, follow these steps:

1. In Portfolio Manager, click More, and then click File options.
2. Click Export, and then click the folder where you want to save the file in the Save In box.
3. In the File Name box, type the name that you want, and then click Save.

How to export from Deluxe Screener

The Deluxe version of MSN Money Investing lets you to export the Criteria, Comparisons Symbols and Results from Deluxe Screener to Excel, or the Results to a tab-delimited file that you can open in Excel, or any other program that reads text files.

To export to Excel, follow these steps:

1. In Deluxe Stock or in Fund Screener, click File, point to Export, and then click Results To Excel.
2. Excel starts, and then the selected items of your Stock/Fund Screener screen appear.

To export your Results as a tab-delimited (text) file, follow these steps:

1. In Deluxe Stock or in Fund Screener, click File, point to Export, and then click Results To Tab-Delimited File.
2. In the Save in box, click the folder where you want to save the file.
3. In the File name box, type the file name that you want, and then click Save.

How to export historical prices for a security

The Deluxe version of MSN Money Investing lets you export Historical Chart's Price History as a .CSV (comma separated value) file.

1. In MSN Money Investing, click Stocks or click Funds.
2. In the Name or Symbol box, type the name or the symbol for the security that you want, and then click OK.
3. Click Intraday Chart, and then use the Chart, Period, and Analysis menus to view the chart that you want.
4. On File menu, click Export Data.

The program that is associated with CSV files opens. The program is typically Notepad or a spreadsheet program such as Excel.

How to read the exported files in Excel

To read the exported file in Excel, follow these steps:

1. Start Excel, and then click Open on the File menu.
2. In the Look In box, click the folder where you saved the file.
3. In the Files Of Type box, click Text Files, click the file that you want, and then click Open.
4. If you are prompted to convert the file, follow these steps:
   1. Under Original Data Type, click Delimited, and then click Next.
   2. Under Delimiters, click to select the Tab check box, and then click Next.
   3. Confirm the data format of each column, and then click Finish.
      
      Note Excel formats all columns as General by default, but you can change the format as appropriate.
