SYMPTOMS

In Word 7.x for Windows 95, when you open a Word 97 document, text boxes contained in the document may be lost.

CAUSE

In Word 7.x for Windows 95, when you use the Word 97 Import Converter to open a Word 97 document that contains text boxes, the text boxes are converted to drawing objects. When the document is saved in Word Document format in Word 7.x for Windows 95 and then reopened in Word 97, Word converts the drawing object to a grouped object. After the document is saved again in Word 97 for Windows, when you reopen the document in Word 7.x for Windows 95, the grouped object (text box) is lost.

NOTE: This behavior occurs because the Word 97 Import Converter (Mswrd832.cnv) is limited in its ability to import grouped objects.
