XCON: MTA Event 2050 with Badly Encoded X.400 Message

A badly encoded X.400 message arriving at an Exchange message transfer agent (MTA) from a non-Exchange MTA can cause the MTA to terminate with an Event 2050 similar to the following:

The incoming message has a Content Identifier envelope field that has an invalid length of 0.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Exchange Server version 5.5. For more information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.
