How to Add or Remove Internet Explorer 4.01 for Windows 3.1 Components

This article describes how to install and uninstall Internet Explorer components.

To install Internet Explorer components, use the appropriate method:

Setup from Local Folder

Use this method if you already downloaded the components you want to use when you originally installed Internet Explorer.

1. In the Internet Explorer 4.0 program group, double-click Add Components, and then click Start Setup.
2. Click Setup From Local Folder.
3. Click OK, click Next, click I Accept The Agreement, and then click Next.
4. Click Next, click to select the check boxes of the components that you want to install, and then click Next.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the Internet Explorer components that you want to use.

Update Installation from the Internet

Use this method if you did not download the components you want to use when you originally installed Internet Explorer.

1. In the Internet Explorer 4.0 program group, double-click Add Components, and then click Start Setup.
2. Click Update Installation From The Internet.
3. Click OK, click Next, click I Accept The Agreement, and then click Next.
4. If you want to install the components now, click Install. If you want to install the components at a later time, click Download Only.
5. Click Next, click Next, click the download site closest to your location, and then click Next.
6. Click to select the check boxes of the components that you want to install, and then click Next.
7. Follow the instructions on the screen to install or download the Internet Explorer components that you want to use.

Uninstalling Components

You cannot remove Internet Explorer components individually. You must uninstall Internet Explorer to remove all of the components. After you remove Internet Explorer, double-click the "Install MSIE4.01" icon located in the Internet Explorer 4.01 program group to reinstall Internet Explorer with the components that you want to use. To uninstall Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

1. In the Internet Explorer 4.01 program group, double-click "Uninstall MSIE4.01."
2. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Internet Explorer.
