Cannot View or Connect to Windows NT Server Shares after Installing Internet Explorer

SYMPTOMS

After you install Internet Explorer with the Active Desktop enabled, you may not be able to view all shares available or connect to a share on a Windows NT server that has thousands of shares available.

When you install the Active Desktop components, the Shell32.dll file is updated. This updated file does not contain the fix that is described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain and install Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2. You can obtain Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 from the following Microsoft Web site:
