SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to load Microsoft Clip Gallery in the products that are listed at the beginning of this article, Microsoft Clip Gallery fails to load. You do not receive an error message, but the computer appears to stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the "ScanDirectMenuINIT" extension for the Visioneer PaperPort Scanner is installed. This extension comes with Visioneer PaperPort Software version 5.x.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, disable the ScanDirectMenuINIT extension. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Point to Control Panels on the Apple menu, and then click Extensions Manager.
  2. Click to clear the check box for the ScanDirectMenuINIT extension.
  3. Click Restart.

STATUS

This problem occurs when you use the products listed above and Visioneer PaperPort Scanner 5.x.

MORE INFORMATION

The ScanDirectMenuINIT provides you with an added item on the menu bar to adjust scanner options. Removing the extension causes no problem; the program and scanner work without the extension.
