PPT97: Red X Appears After Using PowerPoint Add-in or Macro

SYMPTOMS

You may see a red X in place of several graphics and linked files after running a PowerPoint add-in, such as Presentation Conferencing or Pack and Go, or after saving a file using a Visual Basic for Applications macro similar to the following:
ActivePresentation.Savecopyas filename:= "C:\mypres.ppt"

CAUSE

PowerPoint incorrectly stores picture and link information in the presentation after running the add-in or Visual Basic macro.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, obtain Microsoft PowerPoint 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
