Small Business Server Setup Should Only Detect a Single Netcard

This article was previously published under Q189074

SYMPTOMS

Small Business Server Setup will set an IP address for the first detected netcard but will then stop and wait for a customer supplied IP address for the second netcard, when bindings are being performed for Modem Sharing and the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties dialog box is displayed and waits for user input.

CAUSE

Small Business Server is configured through Winnt.sif to detect and install the first card detected by Netdetect.

RESOLUTION

It is possible to "Cancel" at this screen and not have any ill effect on server operation because the first netcard is fully configured. After Small Business Server has finished installing, the second netcard can be configured correctly by going to the Network tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
