Computers Disappear from Manage Computer Wizard in Small Business Server

Computers either disappear or not show up at all from the Manage Computer Wizard in the Small Business Server (SBS) console.

This behavior occurs if the protocol binding order for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and the Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) client has the Remote Access Service (RAS) Wide Area Network (WAN) adapter bound before the network interface card (NIC). When the RAS WAN adapter is bound first, browse broadcasts are sent to the RAS WAN Adapter instead of the network interface card (NIC). When the browse service does not get any response from the RAS WAN adapter, it believes there are no workstations on the network. This, in turn, causes computers to disappear from the "Computer Window" in the Manage Computers Wizard.

To work around this behavior:

1. In Control Panel, double-click Network.
2. Click the Bindings tab.
3. In the Show Bindings For drop-down box, click All Protocols and there may be a TCP/IP Protocol and WINS Client (TCP/IP).
4. Click the plus sign (+) to expand these settings.
5. For both settings, make sure the NIC is at the top of the list.
6. In the Show Bindings For drop-down box, click All Services. The Server and Workstation service may be listed. The TCP/IP Protocol and WINS Client (TCP/IP) protocol is listed below each one.
7. Click the plus sign (+) to expand these settings.
8. For both protocols under Server and Workstation, make sure the NIC is at the top of the list.NOTE: If the server has more than one NIC, the internal NIC must be the one at the top of each list.
