Cannot Connect to DFS Leaf a Second Time If Server Is a NetWare Server

SYMPTOMS

If an attempt is made to connect to a Distributed File System (Dfs) leaf a second time, the following error message occurs if the referral points to a Novell NetWare server:

The Network Name Cannot Be Found

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Multiple UNC (uniform naming convention) Provider (MUP) is using the wrong redirector to process the request.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5.
