When trying to create a new Web Project in Visual InterDev the following
error occurs in Step 3 of 4:
Cannot create a disk-based Web application in 'C:\My Documents\Visual Studio Projects\ProjectName\ProjectName_Local'. Config file "": value "Global FrontPageRoot" not found.
Unable to contact Web server http://<servername>
CAUSE
This error occurs if FrontPage Server Extensions are removed.
The "Unable to contact Web server" occurs if the FrontPage Server Extensions are not on the server machine specified in Step 1 of 4. The "Cannot create a disk-based Web..." error occurs in Step 3 of 4 if the client machine is a separate machine from the server, and while the server has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed, the client machine does not. RESOLUTION
Reinstall FrontPage Server Extensions on the appropriate machine.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.

The FrontPage Server Extensions are required for several features of the
product to complete successfully, including creating a new project.
