This service pack addresses some specific problems that were discovered in SQL Server version 6.5 after it began shipping. Microsoft recommends that all Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5 users apply this service pack.

SQL Server 6.5 Service Pack 5a is available for Intel (x86) and Alpha-based computers.

The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

To obtain these self-extracting files using the anonymous FTP server on the Internet:

1. Go to either of the following FTP sites:

2. Locate and open one of the following folders and download the file:

These files are also available on the Microsoft World Wide Web site on the Internet. To find them, perform the following steps:

1. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/support (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=http%3a%2f%2fsupport.microsoft.com%2fsupport) .
2. Click Drivers and Other Downloads. Note that you may need to click Show Long Menu before you click Downloads.
3. Click BackOffice, click SQL Server, and then click the name of the file you want to download.

The files in the Microsoft Software Library are compressed, self- extracting executable files. After you download the file you need, simply run it to extract the files it contains. Note that the expanded file for each of the platforms contains both the Readme.txt file for installation instructions of the service pack, and the Fixlist.htm file describing all bugs that are corrected with this patch.
