SYMPTOMS

When you insert the installation CD-ROM for the STB Velocity 128 video adapter into your CD-ROM drive, you may receive the following error message:
Playavi
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, the following additional information is displayed:
PLAYAVI caused an invalid page fault in module AMOVIE.OCX at <address>.
If you click OK, the installation program starts as it should.
  • Internet Explorer 5:
    Playavi
    Run-time error '-1 (ffffffff)'
If you click OK while the video clip (.avi file) is running, the Autorun program quits. If you click OK after the .avi file is finished running, the installation program works properly, but you receive the following error message behind the installation program screen:
    Playavi
    Run-time error '-1 (ffffffff)':
    OLE Automation error.
If you click OK, the Autorun program starts again if you previously quit it, or it is displayed in the foreground if is still running. You then receive the following error message:
    Playavi
    Run-time error '365':
Unable to unload within this context.
If you click OK, the process is repeated with the installation program screen being displayed again.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Autorun.inf file on the STB Velocity 128 installation CD-ROM runs a version of Playavi.exe that is incompatible with Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION

Internet Explorer 4.x or Windows 98

Click Close in the error message dialog box. The installation program should function properly.

Internet Explorer 5

  1. Allow the .avi movie to complete while the first error message is being displayed.
  2. Click OK in the error message dialog box. The installation program screen appears.
  3. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, click Playavi, and then click End Task. The installation program should function properly.
