SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a Microsoft Publisher 1.0 file in Microsoft Office Publisher 2003, Microsoft Publisher 2002, or Microsoft Publisher 2000, you receive the following error message:
Publisher cannot open the file.

CAUSE

Publisher 2003, Publisher 2002, and Publisher 2000 do not include a converter that reads Publisher 1.0 files.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to move your content to Publisher 2003, Publisher 2002, or Publisher 2000.

Method 1: Re-create the document in Publisher 2003, Publisher 2002, or Publisher 2000

Note: If you have both Publisher 1.0 and Publisher 2003, Publisher 2002, or Publisher 2000 installed on your computer, you will not be able to copy items from Publisher 1.0 to the later version of Publisher. Instead, you must re-create the publication in Publisher 2003, Publisher 2002, or Publisher 2000.

Method 2: Save the Publisher 1.0 file in a later version of Publisher

Open the Publisher 1.0 file in Publisher version 2.0, 3.0, or 97. Save the file from the later version of Publisher, and then open it in Publisher 2003, Publisher 2002, or Publisher 2000.
