PUB2000: Can't Open HTML Documents in Publisher

You can use Microsoft Publisher to create an HTML (World Wide Web) document based on your publication, but you cannot use Publisher to open that HTML document. If you create a Web site using Publisher, you should also keep a copy of the publication (.pub) file that you used to generate the Web site.

This way, if you want to make a correction to your Web site, you can correct the .pub file and export it as a new HTML document.

A Publisher publication file is a single file that contains both text and graphics. When you create an HTML document based on that publication, several different files are created: one text file for each page of text and one picture file for each non-text element. Publisher cannot open documents in this format.

There are programs, such as Microsoft FrontPage, that can open an HTML document. If you want to make a lot of changes to a Web site created in Publisher, try using Microsoft FrontPage.

NOTE: Most Web Sites created by Publisher include nested tables (a table within a table cell). Some HTML authoring programs cannot open HTML documents that contain nested tables.

If you are familiar with HTML code, you can open HTML documents created by Publisher in a text editor, such as Notepad, and edit the code directly.
