PUB2000: Publisher Imagesetter and Color Printers not Installed

After installing Microsoft Publisher 2000, the Publisher Outside printer drivers which were originally installed by default in earlier versions of Publisher are no longer automatically installed.

Earlier versions of Publisher attempted to install the following postscript printer drivers during the installation of the product:

• MS Publisher Imagesetter
• MS Publisher Color Printer

The postscript drivers that Publisher installs, MS Publisher Imagesetter and MS Publisher Color Printer are no longer installed by default during the installation of the product. These drivers must be installed manually after the installation of Publisher.

The MS Publisher Imagesetter and MS Publisher Color Printer must be installed manually after the installation of Publisher.

Steps to Install the MS Publisher Color Printer and MS Publisher Imagesetter on Windows 2000

1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
2. Double-click the Add Printer icon.
3. Click Next.
4. Click Local Printer.
   
   NOTE: Make Sure Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer is not selected.
5. Click File (Print to File), and then click Next.
6. In the list of Manufaturers, click Generic.
7. Click either the Ms Publisher Color Printer or the MS Publisher Imagesetter in the list of Printers.
8. Click No when asked "Do you want Windows-based programs to use this printer as the default printer", and then click Next.
9. Click No.
10. Click Do Not Share this Printer if prompted, and then click Next. (You will be prompted for this choice if you are installing on a Windows 2000 Server.)
11. Click No when asked "Do you want to print a test page?", click Next, and then click Finish.

Steps to Install the MS Publisher Imagesetter on Windows 9.x or NT

1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and click Printers.
2. In the Printers folder, double click Add Printer.
3. Click Local Printer, and click Next.
4. Click Have Disk.
5. Click Browse.
6. Browse to the folder where Publisher is installed. The folder that Publisher is installed to is:
   C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
7. Select mspub.inf, and click OK.
8. Click OK.
9. In the list of printers provided, click MS Publisher Imagesetter, and click Next.
10. For the available ports, click File, then click Next.
11. Click Next to leave the default name as MS Publisher Imagesetter.
12. Click No for printing a test page, and click Finish.

NOTE: You may be prompted to provide your Windows 95, 98, or NT 4.0 disk to install the proper driver files.

Steps to Install the MS Publisher Color Printer on Windows 9.x or NT

1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and click Printers.
2. In the Printers folder, double click Add Printer.
3. Click Local Printer, and click Next.
4. Click Have Disk.
5. Click Browse.
6. Browse to the folder where Publisher is installed. The folder that Publisher is installed to is:
   C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
7. Select mspub.inf, and click OK.
8. Click OK.
9. In the list of printers provided, click MS Publisher Color Printer, and click Next.
10. For the available ports, click File, then click Next.
11. Click Next to leave the default name as MS Publisher Color Printer.
12. Click No for printing a test page, and click Finish.

NT PostScript Drivers

If a Windows NT 4.0 PostScript printer driver is already installed, then it will be using the Pscript.dll file. This file will be located at: If you never added a Windows NT PostScript printer then you will have to get the Pscript.dll from the i386 folder from where Windows NT was installed.

PSCRIPT.DLL is used with Add Printer but not by the Adobe PostScript installer or other 3rd party drivers.

Windows 95 & 98 PostScript Drivers

If a Windows 95 or 98 based PostScript printer driver is already installed, then the Pscript.drv will be located at: If you have never added a Windows 95 or 98 based PostScript printer you will have to get the Pscript.drv from the media that Windows was installed from.
