FIX: DTS Cannot Save a Package to Repository with Login Greater Than 20 Characters

SYMPTOMS

Using the Data Transformation Services (DTS) user interface, you cannot save a package to the Repository using a login name that is more than 20 characters long. When you click the OK button in the Save dialog box, you will see the following error message:
One or more parameters are invalid.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 1 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. Create a login with a name longer than 20 characters and give it the System Administrators role.
  2. Create a DTS package.
  3. Save the package to the Repository using the login you created in Step 1 of this procedure.
