Knowledge Base article ID numbers are changing to seven-digit numeric format

Expand all | Collapse all

Summary

We want to make you aware of a small change that is occurring this year to the ID numbers of new Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) articles. After June 2009, some new KB articles will be published with seven-digit article ID numbers. The article ID numbers of these new KB articles will start at 2000000 (for example, 2000007). Additionally, we plan to use seven-digit article ID numbers for all new KB articles at the end of 2009 or in early 2010. No changes will occur to KB articles that already exist.

Call to Action

If you use any tools, systems, or processes that can be affected by these changes because they expect a six-digit KB article ID number, we recommend that you evaluate the impact to your environment, and then implement any changes that are required.
