Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN)/Mobile Broadband device, cannot connect to 3G network after resuming from S3 sleep or S4 hibernation state

Symptoms

  When system resumes from S3 or S4 power saving states, WWAN device may not be able to re-connect to 3G network automatically.

Cause

The problem occurs when Windows Mobile Broadband Service (WWANSvc) is cleaning its internal data structures before it’s ready for WWAN device to connect. The issue corrupts some of the internal data structures, as a result WWAN service will not be able to communicate with WWAN device.

Resolution

The issue can be resolved by one of the following action:

  1. Reboot the system.
  2. Or 

  3. Stop/Restart WWAN Service
  • Open “Control Panel”
  • Select “Administrative Tools”
  • Open “Services”
  • Locate “WWAN AutoConfig” service
  • Right click on the service to stop, then to restart the service again
