When trying to upgrade to System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2, setup starts fine but immediately fails. If you view the MOMx.log file you'll see errors like those listed below:
Note: The log file for the setup program is MOM*.log and is located in the Temp folder of current user profile (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\Mom2.log).

This can occur if the existing installation of System Center Operations Manager 2007 is mistakenly identified as an Eval version.
To resolve this issue, follow the steps listed below:
1. Open Regedit and navigate to HKCR\Installer\UpgradeCodes
2. Find the key named 357CFC9B0C6AEA9479973167B8098C8F
3. Right click and rename this key to 35685071826A30C4F808E5B271E9DC55
4. Now try running setup again. Make sure that you use a domain account that has SQL DB admin rights.
