On a system with many MSI-X supported devices, MSINFO32 can take an extended amount of time to export the system data to a file

Symptoms

Exporting of system info from MSINFO32 can take up to an hour on a system with many MSI-X supported devices

MSI-X supported devices allow a larger number of interrupts (up to 2048). MSINFO32 uses WMI to read information about all of the resources assigned to a particular adapter. With the introduction of such a large number of interrupts, these WMI calls can take some time to complete.

Microsoft acknowledges this as an issue and is investigating a fix for future operating systems.

The time required to complete the export increases with each MSI-X supported device installed on a system.

Note, this effects displaying the specific device information for the MSI-X supported devices as well. You will see “Refreshing System Information…” in the right hand pane for a short time while it gathers the data on that specific device.
