How to upgrade Microsoft Security Essentials to the latest version

In Microsoft Security Essentials, you may experience the following symptoms:

• You are running Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1611.0 or an earlier version. Then, you notice an action item that prompts you to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials through the Microsoft Security Essentials notification messages.
• You are running a Simplified Chinese version of Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1407.0, 1.0.1500.0, 1.0.1610.0, 1.0.1611.0, or a later version on a computer that is not connected to the Internet. In this scenario, you are directed to the Help content in a different language, such as Traditional Chinese.
• You are running a beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1407.0, 1.0.1500.0, 1.0.1610.0, or a later version. In this scenario, you notice an action item that prompts you to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials through the Microsoft Security Essentials user notification messages. You may also notice some optional downloads on Microsoft Update that offer an upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials. 

To resolve these issues, upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials. By upgrading now, you will help maintain continuous protection against viruses, against spyware, and against other malicious software.

CHANGES IN LATEST VERSION

The latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials includes improved messaging on the Update tab, improved scan reports on the Home tab, performance improvements, and enforcement of runtime Windows Activation Technology (WAT) in Microsoft Security Essentials.

To upgrade Microsoft Security Essentials, use one of the following options:

• On the Microsoft Security Essentials Home tab, click the Upgrade Now button.
• On the Help menu, click Upgrade Microsoft Security Essentials.
