Summary

SYMPTOMS:

When you try to launch Windows Media Player by opening a media file, you receive the following error message:

" <filename>Server Execution Failed"

CAUSE:

You may receive this error when you attempt to open a media file shortly after closing Windows Media Player (WMP). When you close WMP, the user interface closes immediately, however WMP continues to be in a "shutting down" state for a few seconds, and the process is still active during this time.

RESOLUTION:

You must wait a few seconds (two is typically sufficient) before reopening WMP.
