Symptoms

When you double click My Computer on a computer with no floppy disk drive installed, a removable disk (A:) appears. When you view the drives in Device Manager, no floppy disk drive is listed because none exists on the computer.

Cause

MS-DOS always creates drive A on a computer. When Windows starts, this information is transferred to the real-mode manager (RMM).

Status

This behavior is by design.
