SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install Windows Virtual PC or Windows XP mode on a computer that is running Windows 7.
  • You attach a device that has an embedded USB host controller to the computer. For example, you attach a PCI Express card that has an embedded USB host controller to the computer.
  • You try to safely remove the device.

In this scenario, you cannot remove the device. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Problem Ejecting <USB host controller’s name>

The driver ‘\Driver\vpcusb’ is preventing this device from being stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of an incompatibility between Windows Virtual PC and USB devices that use third-party drivers.
