This article describes how to create a document shortcut. The shortcut is placed on your desktop. When you double-click the shortcut, the shortcut opens your document, and takes you to a specific place in your document.


NOTE: You should save the document at least once before following this procedure. If you create a new document, perform these steps, and then save the file, you will be able to create the shortcut, but you will receive the following error message when you attempt to open the document by using the shortcut:
Unable to open <path\filename.shb>.

Moniker cannot open file.
where <path\filename.shb> is the path and file name of the shortcut.

To create a document shortcut, follow these steps:
  1. Open an existing document.
  2. Select the text (or space) to which you want to create a shortcut.
  3. Right-click the selected text, and then drag it to the desktop.
  4. When you release the right mouse button, click Create Document Shortcut Here on the shortcut menu that appears.
  5. Save and close the document.
  6. Double-click the document shortcut icon to open the document and to jump to the text selection that you specified in step 2.
