INTRODUCTION

This article describes a nonsecurity update that implements Extended Protection for Authentication in installations of Outlook Express and Windows Mail.

When Extended Protection for Authentication is enabled, authentication requests are bound to both the Service Principal Names (SPN) of the server to which the client tries to connect to and, if present, to the outer Transport Layer Security (TLS) channel over which the Integrated Windows Authentication occurs.

This update will be offered only to systems that already have update 968389 installed because update 968389 contains the base Security Support Provider Interface (SSPI) update, which is a prerequisite.

No configuration is required after you install this update. After this update is installed, Outlook Express and Windows Mail will automatically support Extended Protection for Authentication if update 968389 has also been installed correctly.
