SYMPTOMS

If you install Windows 2000 on a partition using the FAT32 file system on a computer that also has Windows NT 4.0 installed, the Windows NT 4.0 installation cannot gain access to the FAT32 partition.

RESOLUTION

Although Windows 2000 supports the FAT32 file system, Windows NT 4.0 does not. If you need to share data between Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, you must use either the FAT or NTFS file system on the partition.

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Standard Edition
