Redirecting the My Documents Folder for All Users in Windows 2000

You can use Group Policy to redirect the My Documents folder to a different network path on the domain for all users without having to set up an individual policy for each user.

NOTE: This procedure works only if the users have Windows 2000 Professional-based workstations.

1. On a domain controller, click Start, click Run, type dsa.msc, and then click OK to start the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.
2. In the right pane, click the root of the domain.
3. Right-click the domain, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Group Policy tab, click New, and type a recognizable name for the new Group Policy Object (GPO), such as Domain My Docs Redirection. Press ENTER.
5. Click Edit to edit the Domain My Docs Redirection GPO.
6. Expand User Configuration.
7. Expand Windows Settings.
8. Expand Folder Redirection.
9. Right-click My Documents, and then click Properties.
10. Click Basic.
11. In the Target Folder Location box, type the path as:
    \\servername\sharename\username
    This redirects the users' My Documents folder to a folder on the network that is created automatically based on the user name.
