SYMPTOMS

If you use Microsoft Word to send a document through e-mail, Word may use Microsoft Outlook Express instead of Outlook 2000, even though you set up Outlook 2000 to install on first use.

CAUSE

Outlook 2000 is not set as the default mail client, until it completes its first run tasks. Ater you install Office 2000, first run tasks occur the first time you start Outlook 2000. If you select to install Outlook 2000 on first use, it does not complete its first run tasks, and it is not the default e-mail client. In this situation, Outlook Express is the default e-mail client and will handle all Microsoft Office program requests for sending e-mail.

RESOLUTION

Start Outlook 2000 and let it complete its first run tasks before you attempt to use other Office programs to send e-mail.
