On This PageSummaryThis article describes how to read the product GUIDs in the Windows registry to determine information about the Microsoft Office 2010 suite, programs, or utilities that you are using. Information about the release type, the release version, and the language of an Office 2010 suite or program is contained in the GUID. More informationWhen you install an Office 2010 suite or one of the stand-alone Office 2010 programs, one or more product codes, or GUIDs, are created in the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall {BRMMmmmm-PPPP-LLLL-p000-D000000FF1CE}
The following table describes the characters of the GUID. If you are running the 32-bit version of Office 2010 on a 64-bit Windows operating system, the GUIDs are located in the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall Collapse this table

Release versionThe release version values specify the level of the release, such as a beta version or a release to manufacturing (RTM) version. For more information about the release version values, see the following table.Collapse this table
Release typeThe release type specifies the audience for the 2007 Office suite, such as Enterprise or Retail. For more information about the 2007 Office suite release type, see the following table.Collapse this table
Product IDThe product ID is the version of the Office 2010 suite or program, such as Microsoft Office Professional 2010 or Microsoft Office Standard 2010. For more information about the Office 2010 product IDs, see the following table.Collapse this table
Note Microsoft Visio Standard 2010, Microsoft Visio Professional 2010, and Microsoft Visio Premium use the product key to determine the product. Therefore, a single product ID is used for all three of these products. Language identifierThe language identifier (LCID) varies from language to language. Because the LCID is stored in the GUID in hexadecimal format, you may have to convert the LCID value to a decimal value to determine the language of the GUID. For example, a hexadecimal value of 0409 converts to a decimal value of 1033. This value represents English.For more information about language identifiers in Office 2010 suites and programs, visit the following Microsoft website: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179219(office.14).aspx

Sample GUIDThe first 16 digits of a GUID are 91140000-0011-0407. This GUID was created by the initial release version (9) of a Retail or OEM edition (1), version 14.0000, of Microsoft Office Professional 2010 (0014). The language of the product is German. In this case, the hexadecimal value 0407 converts to the decimal value 1031. This value represents German.PropertiesArticle ID: 2186281 - Last Review: February 5, 2013 - Revision: 2.0 Applies to
