You receive the "Publisher cannot open files from a different version" error message when you open an unpacked publication in Publisher 98

When you unpack a publication and try to open it with Microsoft Publisher 98, you will receive the following error message: This error message will occur, even if you saved the publication as a Publisher 98 file before you packed it.

Pack and Go for Microsoft Publisher 2000 is not compatible with Microsoft Publisher 98. The packed publication contains a Publisher 2000 file, regardless of whether or not it was previously saved in another version.

Do not use Pack and Go if you intend to open a publication in Microsoft Publisher 98. Use the Save As method to save the Publication as a Publisher 98 file instead.
