Microsoft Windows Installer

Removing Office removes the Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI), which may be required by other programs. If, after you remove Office, you need to reinstall the Windows Installer, do either of the following:
On the Office CD1, open the Msi folder and run either Instmsi (Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me> or Instmsiw (Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000).
Browse to the Microsoft Web site http://www.msdn.microsoft.com (http://www.msdn.microsoft.com) and search for Windows Installer.

MORE INFORMATION

NOTE: After you complete the following steps, it may be necessary to reinstall earlier versions of programs that use the shared components that Microsoft Office uses. For example, to use any of the programs included with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 or Microsoft Publisher, it may be necessary to reinstall these programs before you can use them again.

To remove Microsoft Office from your computer, follow these steps:
1.On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2.Double-click Add/Remove Programs. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Add/Remove. If you installed Microsoft Office from a CD-ROM, you are prompted to insert CD1.
3.In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Remove Office. If you are prompted to restart the computer after Setup is completed, restart the computer.
4.Using Windows Explorer, delete the following folders and their subfolders.

NOTE: Before you delete the Microsoft Office folder, make sure that you do not have other programs, such as Microsoft Project or Microsoft Publisher, installed in the Microsoft Office folder. If you delete the Microsoft Office folder, you may need to reinstall these programs.

NOTE: Deleting the Microsoft Office folder also deletes the Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\XLStart folder, which may contain personal files. Ensure that all personal files are removed from this folder before deleting it. Also, deleting the Microsoft Office folder deletes the Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates folder, which may contain personal templates. Ensure that all personal files, including custom macros, are removed from this folder before you delete it.
