WD2000: AutoShape Position Changes When Viewing or Saving as Web Page

When you insert an AutoShape into a document and then save or view the document as a Web page, the AutoShape's position on the Web page may not be consistent with its position in the original document.

Because there are no page margins in HTML (Web pages), the margins essentially disappear when a document is saved or viewed as a Web page. Because AutoShapes are "anchored" to page properties, such as margins, the positioning of the AutoShape may change when the document is saved or viewed as a Web page.

When using AutoShapes in a Word document that you intend to save as a Web page, you must take into account page margins when you position AutoShapes.

You can use one of the following methods for positioning your AutoShape:

Method 1: Save as Web Page and Then Position Your Document Objects

Because there are no margins in Web pages, the best resolution is to first save your document as a Web page and then position your document objects accordingly.

Method 2: View Your Document in Web Layout

You can view your document in Web layout view to position your document objects. To view in Web layout, on the View menu, click Web Layout.
