SYMPTOMS

When you save a document containing a bordered table as Word 6.0/95 (*.doc) and reopen the file, the inside table borders are lost.

This problem occurs if you first save the Word document as a Web page and then save the file as Word 6.0/95 (*.doc).

Select the table and reapply the borders as you want them to appear.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
