OFF2000: Internal Error 2893 When Specifying Long Company Name

SYMPTOMS

When you install Office, the following error message may appear:

Internal Error 2893: Please contact product support for assistance.

When you click OK, Setup continues.

CAUSE

This error will occur when you specify a company name that is more than 52 characters in length by using any of the following methods:

Inserting a line using the COMPANYNAME property in the Options section of the Setup.ini file.
Typing a name in the Organization box in step 5 of the Custom Installation Wizard
Adding the COMPANYNAME property on the command-line when you run Office Setup from the Run dialog box.

NOTE: Both the User Name and the Organization Name boxes in the Customer Information page of the Custom Installation Wizard are limited to 51 characters.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click OK when the error message appears and Setup will complete normally. If you use this method, the company name will be truncated at 52 characters.
