Unable to Run Completely Silent Internet Explorer Installation

SYMPTOMS

When you try to perform a "silent installation" of Internet Explorer version 4.01 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may still receive one or more of the following prompts that require input:
  • Do you wish to overwrite the existing version of this file?
    Do you want to overwrite file: filename?

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a problem in Internet Explorer version 4.01 Service Pack 1.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, obtain Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 Service Pack 2, and then run Setup by using the following command:
ie4setup /Q:A /C:"ie4wzd.exe /S:""#e"" /Q:A /R:S /M:2 /I:N"
NOTE: You must type this command exactly as it appears.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1.
