Clicking Link Inappropriately Routes Through Proxy Server

When you click a link that references a local Intranet site with an Internet Protocol (IP) address instead of a fully-qualified domain name (FQDN), your request may be sent through a proxy server instead of using a direct connection. Also, this problem may occur even if you have specified an exception.

This problem can occur because of a problem in Internet Explorer that occurs when determining if a name is in the bypass list.

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next version of Internet Explorer that contains this hotfix.
