ERROR MESSAGE

If you attempt to send a fax message from Outlook running on Microsoft Windows NT Workstation, you may receive the following series of error messages:

WinFax installation failed. The fax feature is not available.

-or-

Microsoft Outlook can't use Symantec Fax Starter Edition for sending or receiving faxes. Microsoft Outlook cannot install the necessary files due to Windows installer error 1603. ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE.

-or-

Microsoft Outlook can't use Symantec Fax Starter Edition for sending or receiving faxes. This feature is not currently installed. Would you like to install it now.

CAUSES

You attempted to send a fax message from Outlook running on Microsoft Windows NT Workstation. Because the fax software is not installed, Office attempts to install the Symantec Fax Starter Edition on demand. In this case, you are not logged on to Windows NT as an administrator and the installation cannot complete.

WHAT TO TRY

Quit Outlook and restart Windows NT. Log on to Windows NT with an account in the workstation's administrator group and then attempt to fax in Outlook. With administrator permissions you will be allowed to install Symantec Fax Starter Edition the first time you attempt to fax.
