Symptoms

When you attempt to send a Word document as an e-mail attachment in Word, an error message similar to the following may appear:
Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure: "Unspecified error".
NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. If you want to enable this functionality for this and other error messages in Microsoft Office 2000, please download the Microsoft Office 2000 Customizable Alerts file from the Microsoft Office Update Web site at the following address:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8FBEE1D3-C5BB-4A36-A2F7-DC63DE2A818C
NOTE: If you reached this article by clicking the Web Info button in an error message, you already have Customizable Alerts enabled.

Resolution

The current MAPI session was closed, and Word was no longer able to connect to that MAPI session.

Use one of the following methods to resolve this problem:

Method 1: Restart your MAPI e-mail application.

You can restart your MAPI e-mail application and then send your document from Word.

Method 2: Save and close the document and Word, and then restart Word.

You can save and close your document and then quit and restart Word. Word then establishes a new MAPI session, allowing you to send your document.
