"No valid source could be found for the product Office 2000 product" error message when you click a feature in an Office 2000 programs

When you click a feature in one of the Office programs listed at the beginning of this article, you receive the following error message: When you click Cancel, an error message similar to the following appears where Office 2000 product is the name of the specific Office product being used.

When you click OK, an error message similar to the following appears: NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. These errors occur when you install some features of Office to install on demand from a resource such as a CD-ROM or network server, and the resource becomes unavailable. For example, during Setup you choose Installed on First Use for the Excel Add-ins. If you run Excel and select an add-in, the feature will attempt to install. If you are disconnected from your installation point, the error will appear.

Method 1: Connect to an Installation Source

If you become disconnected from your installation point or network resource, reconnect and try to use the Office feature again. If you are a mobile user using a laptop computer and the installation resource is unavailable, you will not be able to use this Office feature until you reconnect to your installation resource.

Method 2: Reinstall Office

Follow these steps to reinstall the most recent edition of Microsoft Office:

1. Insert the CD-ROM for the Microsoft Office edition that was installed most recently.
2. Click Start and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type MSIEXEC /i drive:\data1.msi reinstall=all reinstallmode=vomus where drive is replaced by the drive letter of your CD-ROM.
4. Click OK.

When you choose Installed on First Use for specific features of Office, these features are not installed until you initially use them. Therefore, this requires you to be able to connect to the installation point when you try to use the feature.
