SYMPTOMS

When you modify data via a view in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, the tables that are related to the view become corrupted.

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You have two or more tables that have the same structure.
  • These tables do not have clustered indexes.
  • Each table has a check constraint that restricts the possible values for a specific column to a certain interval. The intervals do not overlap.
  • You create a view that retrieves a union of all these tables. You use the NOLOCK hint in each query of the union.
  • You perform a data modification on the view in two or more sessions in parallel. For example, you perform the UPDATE, INSERT or DELETE operations on the view.

CAUSE

The issue occurs because an incorrect lock isolation is used during the data modification operation.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you can use DBCC CHECKDB ('DB Name', REPAIR_REBUILD) command to try to correct the corruption. If the corruption cannot be corrected, restore the latest backup that does not have the corruption.
