FIX: Memory Problems with Many DTCs on 64 Meg Windows 95/98 Clients

SYMPTOMS

Loading a page with 49 or more DTC's on an ASP or HTML page in Visual InterDev 6.0 on Windows 95 or 98 might cause the following error message when Visual InterDev attempts to display the code in Source View:
"An Object failed to load: the object will be displayed as text"

CAUSE

This error message means that any given number of DTCs were unable to be displayed due to low memory conditions.

RESOLUTION

Install Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 3.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  • Create an asp page in Visual InterDev on a machine with Windows 95 or Windows 98 and 64 Megs of RAM that does not have Internet Explorer 5.0 installed.
  • Add 50 DTC's to the page.
  • Save the page and open it again with the source tab selected.
