"PING -T" Stops Timing Out After 50 Days

SYMPTOMS

The "PING -T" command stops functioning after running continuously for 49.7 days.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the ICMPTIMER value does not roll over correctly from 0xffffffff to 0x00000000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5.
