FIX: The value of the "Axis" label appears in each column and the "Gridline Interval" value is not honored after a RDL file is upgraded from SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2008

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services (SSRS 2005) RDL file that has an embedded Chart control.
  • The Chart control has the following layout design:
    • The Show Label setting is enabled in an axis label.
    • The Major/Minor Gridline Interval setting is set to an expression.
  • You upgrade the RDL file to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008).
In this scenario, the value of the Axis label appears in each column and the Gridline Interval value is not honored.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of an error in the upgrade code of SSRS 2008.

The SQL Server 2008 builds that were released after SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 was released
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
