Event ID 82 may be recorded in the System log after you extend the protected dynamic volume on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008Article ID: 2279787 - View products that this article applies to. On This PageSYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario:
Issue 1: When you try to delete some volume snapshots that were created before the volume was extended, the operation fails. Issue 2: You cannot bring the volume online after you take the volume offline. For example, you cannot bring the volume online after you restart the computer. Additionally, the following event is recorded in the System log: Event ID: 82 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: computer name Description: Volume name is offline for shadow copy protection. A shadow copy meta data corruption was detected. Please try clearing the protection fault or restart the computer. If all else fails, revert out of shadow copy protection mode to reclaim the use of the volume while losing the shadow copies. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
