SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a dynamic volume on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.
  • You enable the snapshot protection mode on the volume.
  • You configure the volume size to be extended.
  • You regularly create snapshots for the volume. Some snapshots are created before the volume is extended. Other snapshots are created after the volume is extended.
In this scenario, you may encounter the following issues:

Issue 1:

When you try to delete some volume snapshots that were created before the volume was extended, the operation fails.

Issue 2:

You cannot bring the volume online after you take the volume offline. For example, you cannot bring the volume online after you restart the computer.

Description:
Volume name is offline for shadow copy protection. A shadow copy meta data corruption was detected. Please try clearing the protection fault or restart the computer. If all else fails, revert out of shadow copy protection mode to reclaim the use of the volume while losing the shadow copies.

  • Service Pack 1 is integrated into the release version of Windows Server 2008.
  • The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 and for Windows Vista" section. MUM files and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are very important for maintaining the state of the updated components. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
