SYMPTOMS

When you are installing Windows 2000 on a computer with multiple video adapters and monitors installed, Setup may seem to stop responding (hang) while the message "Starting up..." is displayed. If you turn on all the monitors, you may see that Setup has switched to a different monitor.

CAUSE

Even though the computer's BIOS is set to use an AGP video adapter as the primary adapter, a PCI video adapter may be used during Setup.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, turn on all hardware (including all monitors) during Windows 2000 Setup.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
