SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You install security update 975560 on a computer that is running Windows XP.
You try to play an Audio Video Interleaved (AVI) file by using an application that uses the DirectShow API.

In this scenario, you cannot play the AVI file.

For example, you try to open an AVI file by using the GraphEdit utility. In this scenario, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

These filters cannot agree on a connection. Verify type compatibility of input pin and output pin.
No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection.
Return code: 0x80040217

Notes

Windows Media Player and the GraphEdit utility are two typical media playback applications that use the DirectShow API.

File information

The English (United States) version of this hotfix installs files that have the attributes that are listed in the following tables. The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The dates and the times for these files on your local computer are displayed in your local time together with your current daylight saving time (DST) bias. Additionally, the dates and the times may change when you perform certain operations on the files.

Windows XP file information note

In addition to the files that are listed in these tables, this hotfix also installs an associated security catalog file (KBnumber.cat) that is signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
