SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install security update 975560 on a computer that is running Windows XP.
  • You try to play an Audio Video Interleaved (AVI) file by using an application that uses the DirectShow API.
In this scenario, you cannot play the AVI file.

For example, you try to open an AVI file by using the GraphEdit utility. In this scenario, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
These filters cannot agree on a connection. Verify type compatibility of input pin and output pin.
No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection.
Return code: 0x80040217

  • Windows Media Player and the GraphEdit utility are two typical media playback applications that use the DirectShow API.
