"Your S/MIME control is out of date. You must reinstall it." error message in OWA after you install Exchange Server 2007 SP3

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3 (SP3) on a computer.
  • A user accesses a mailbox that is hosted on the computer by using Outlook Web Access with the S/MIME control installed. 
  In this scenario, the user receives the following error message:

Your S/MIME control is out of date. You must reinstall it.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the version of the mimectl.dll file differs from the version of the owasmime.dll file.

Note The mimectl.dll file is inside the owasmime.dll file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the following update rollup:
2279665  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2279665/ ) Description of Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
